Over the past few weeks I have been doing a lot of reflecting about where I am in life, where I'm going, and how I'm getting there. I've thought about what makes me happy in my life, and what makes life happy for those around me. As part of my November gratitude posts, here are some of the things that I have learned in my 19.5 years:
Life is about being happy. It's about choosing to be positive amidst a world giving us plenty of reasons to be unhappy. It's about being so happy that it's contagious! It's about being thankful for so many blessings.
Life is about loving those around you. It's about sending a random text to brighten the day of someone else. It's about sending flowers to your mom just to thank her for being your best friend. It's about celebrating birthdays to the point of ridiculousness, because birthdays are wonderful. It's about telling those you care about how much they mean to you! It's hugging your mom when you come home, and playing Clue with your little brother. It's about loving with all you have, without worrying about getting hurt.
Life is about making memories. It's about taking way too many pictures and documenting the best moments in life. It's about sneaking into a hot tub (and getting caught! ha), late night sushi runs, and singing taylor swift songs loudly in the car with your best friends. It's reminiscing on days gone by, but mostly loving life around you. It's appreciating every girls night and laughing about awkward blind dates. It's about loving every day for the opportunity to become better.
Life is about faith. It's trusting in the timing of God and knowing that He has a better plan for us than we could ever hope for. It's trusting that the long nights of studying, papers, tests, and classes will all be rewarded someday. It's about knowing that prince charming will come when the time is right. It's about becoming the best I can be and living every day for my own happiness.
Life is about following your heart. It's turning down a full ride scholarship to another school and working to put yourself through BYU and knowing life is better than you could have imagined. It's giving someone who broke your heart another chance, despite many fears. It's about being true to yourself and being happy with the person in the mirror.
"Life is to be enjoyed, not endured."
- President Gordon B. Hinckley
