During the past week as all of my final preparations have been taking place, I have been plagued with thoughts about my swimsuit. I will be wearing a one-piece for the competition, and a wearing a two-piece was never even an option for me. There was never a question about compromising my standards. A majority of the 49 other contestants will be wearing two-piece swimsuits, and it is rare for a girl to make the top 10 or win the title of Miss Utah if she doesn't wear a bikini.
As I have been buying last minute wardrobe items and thinking about the pageant almost 24/7, I almost questioned my decision. I have been working hard to be in great shape by going to the gym twice a day for the past few months and following a very healthy diet. But even though I am proud of the way I look, I know that being an example of modesty is the most important thing. After having a conversation tonight with my Mom, I was reminded about why it is important to remain true to myself. Then I read this quote by President Hinckley...
"Of all the creations of the Almighty, there is none more beautiful, none more inspiring than a lovely daughter of God who walks in virtue with an understanding of why she should do so, who honors and respects her body as a thing sacred and divine, who cultivates her mind and constantly enlarges the horizon of her understanding, who nurtures her spirit with everlasting truth. God will hold us accountable if we neglect His daughters. He has given us a great and compelling trust. May we be faithful to that trust." — Gordon B. Hinckley
This quote could not have inspired me at a better time:) I am excited to fulfill a long time dream next week by participating at Miss Utah, and I will be proud for presenting myself as someone who respects her body and knows why that is important.
I have been preparing my entire life for this week, and no matter what happens, it will be the experience of a lifetime:)
